Frequently Asked Questions
VIP Services® gives you an augmented reality view of your plant, displaying the camera video feed combined with live data (from PLCs, HMI or SCADA system) and technical resources relevant to the equipment or process being viewed. This allows you to view process data, schematics or other technical documents right at the equipment you are working on. VIP Services® can also be used with URL-based PM and trouble-reporting systems to allow entry of trouble reports or preventative maintenance activities. You now have a holistic, all-encompassing view of your process, with data and resources linked to equipment the data represent. To capture process issues, VIP Services® records the entire display, video, audio, process data and on-screen annotations, which can be sent to offsite resources as a video file for quick analysis and resolution.
An Asset Tag is anything in your plant or process, real or abstract, which can be characterized by data. Examples of Tags are motors, pumps, production line output, work cells or warehouse activity. Tags are used by VIP Services® to identify equipment or processes in the field of view of the camera. They are configured using the VIP Services® Configuration Tool and can contain OPC or ODBC data, technical documents, email addresses or phone numbers, or links to intranet data entry or reporting systems. Each Tag generates a unique QR code that can be mounted on or near the equipment or process it represents. VIP Services® scans the QR code and displays the configured data.
No. VIP Services® allows direct selection of any Tag from a menu. You can view data and resources from one or more Tags sitting at your desk, while in a meeting, at home or anywhere you are connected to the plant network. Any Tag can be added to your Favorites List for quick and easy access anytime.
Yes. You will only need to configure a VPN to your plant’s network.
No. VIP Services® uses TLS encryption to communicate between the VIP Services® Server and the iOS client. QR codes are encrypted and contain no usable data. Also, VIP Services® does not allow a write-back via OPC, so it cannot be used to actually control the process.
VIP Services® connects to automated systems using OPC or ODBC connections. If you use standard PLCs, HMI, SCADA Systems, ERP, MES, SAP or other database centric systems, VIP Services® can connect to it to show live data. We can also link to document servers and web- or URL-based systems (such as Microsoft’s SharePoint) for Info View items.
Wunderlich-Malec will provide you a VIP Blue Box for your service contract. The system will come with all required software and licensing to allow the VIP Services® system to run. WM will work with you to create the needed Tags. For each Tag, we will generate a QR code, which will be mounted on or near the equipment or process it represents. Then, we will install the VIP Services® App on your desired Windows devices and register them with VIP Services® using the Configuration Tool. When this is done, you can immediately start using VIP Services® to scan QR codes on the floor and view live data and resources—it’s that easy!
